Merlin 3000S Demand Control Kitchen Ventilation System – BS 6173 | CO2/Gas-Controlled Fan Speed
The Merlin 3000S automatically controls fan speed by adjusting a continuous output from 0–10 VDC (based upon measured CO2 and gas use) to lower power consumption and noise when extraction demands are at their lowest. BS 6173 compliant. The Merlin 3000S also has an optional gas proving system that will allow you to prove gas use for appliances that don’t have Flame Failure Devices (FFDs). It also includes smoke, steam and heat detection, CO and methane/LPG detection and dual canopy control. There is also BMS interface capabilities. A 4.3” color TFT touch screen displays gas consumption, CO2 levels and system status. IP65 rated. Two year warranty. Typically ships within 2–3 weeks.
The Merlin 3000S goes beyond simple BS 6173 gas interlock compliance and provides full demand controlled kitchen ventilation. Unlike many other systems which just interlock the fan with the gas supply, this system actually varies the fan speed based upon real-time conditions in your kitchen. When CO2 levels are at their lowest and gas usage is at its minimum (i.e., quiet service period or preparation times), fan speed and consequently power consumption and noise level are lowered automatically. However, when CO2 rises and/or gas usage increases, the fan speed will increase to keep a safe level of ventilation in accordance with DW/172 requirements. In comparison to constant-speed ventilation systems, the Merlin 3000S will provide a substantial reduction in power consumption while maintaining safe operating parameters.
In addition to meeting the BS 6173 requirements using fan current sensors or air pressure differential switches for the interlocking function, the Merlin 3000S also includes CO2 sensing, optional CO and gas detection (methane and LPG) plus optical smoke and steam sensing and duct temperature sensing. Each sensor type can operate independently or together to provide the greatest degree of overall safety for your kitchen operation. The Merlin 3000S also offers an optional gas proving system that enables the system to meet the requirements of kitchens that contain equipment without FFDs. Additionally, all system data including gas consumption and CO2 levels are displayed on the user-friendly 4.3-inch color TFT touch-screen monitor.
