Merlin CT1250 Gas Interlock Panel – Two Built-In Current Sensors | BS 6173 | S&S Northern
The Merlin CT1250 Gas Interlock Panel is a BS 6173 compliant interlock panel for commercial kitchens using built in current monitors rather than the traditional air pressure differential switches. This means that in kitchens where all appliances have flame failure devices installed, no gas proving is needed - a big plus. It monitors up to two fans, covering a current range of 0.1A–20A. It's rated IP55, sports a clear LED display, BMS terminals (NC/NO/common), accepts remote emergency stop, is wall or panel mounted and comes with a 3-year warranty. Note though - it's not suitable for installations where belt-driven fans are being used.
The Merlin CT1250 is an alternative to the more common pressure-differential switch interlock panels (such as the Banico ISP-3). Instead of monitoring airflow in the duct the way the Banico does, the CT1250 monitors the electrical current drawn by the extraction fan motor. As the fan motor kicks in and draws enough current, the panel lets the gas solenoid valve open. If for any reason the fan motor stops or fails – and current drops as a result – the valve closes. This approach is particularly useful for installations where using a pressure differential switch is just not practical – like in the case of a wall-mounted extraction fan where running a pressure switch in the duct just won't fly.
It's worth pointing out that the current monitoring approach will only do in kitchens where all of the gas appliances have flame failure devices. In kitchens without FFD, one of the pressure-differential interlock or a gas proving system is going to need to be used instead. The CT1250 isn't recommended for use with belt-driven fans either – in these cases the motor may still be drawing current even if the fan belt has snapped and the extraction fan is no longer running.
Key Features & Benefits
No Need for a Pressure Switch - We've ditched the old pressure switch and gone for a current monitor approach – no need to install a switch in the duct or deal with duct penetration.
BS 6173:2009 Compliant - It ticks all of the boxes for the UK mandatory commercial kitchen gas interlock standard.
For Kitchens with Flame Failure Devices - No gas proving required – the current monitoring interlock will do just fine as long as all appliances have FFD.
Monitors Two Fans - 0.1A to 20A - You can adjust the current thresholds to match the fan motor specs in your site.
No Moving Parts to Break - The current monitoring bit has no mechanical components that can break – a big plus in some installations where pressure switches sometimes fail.
Spot On for Wall-Mounted Fans - The alternative when pressure differential switches just won't cut it.
LED Display to Keep an Eye On Things - A clear indication of system status.
BMS Terminals - NC, NO and common for integration with a building management system.
Accepts Remote Emergency Stop Buttons
Built for the Long Haul - IP55 Rated
Not for Use with Belt-Driven Fans - In these cases the motor may still be drawing current even if the fan belt has snapped.
