Commercial kitchen gas interlocking system packs are now obligatory by law for all commercial catering gas installations in the UK; specifically under IGEM/UP/19 and BS 6173:2001. A commercial kitchen gas interlock system prevents the flow of gas from the main to the burners until the kitchen extraction ventilation has been started and/or verified as working. This prevents the accumulation of un-burnt gases and combustion products in the kitchen. The Banico Gas-Minder 4 ISP-3 (GM111) is an example of a commercial kitchen gas interlock system. It includes an IP56 control unit (to protect against dust and water), a DPSA-20 differential pressure switch, a DK-1 duct kit (the components that connect into the extractor ducting to measure airflow), an EM-1 emergency stop push-button and instructions. The gas solenoid valve used to isolate the gas to the burners when the system operates, is not included and must be purchased separately. The system comes with a one year manufacturers warranty.
A commercial kitchen gas interlock system like the Banico Gas-Minder 4 ISP-3 (GM111) will ensure that once your extraction ventilation is operating correctly, the gas to the burners will be supplied. When you switch off or disconnect your extraction ventilation, the gas supply to the burners will also be switched off; thereby preventing a dangerous mixture of fuel and air accumulating in the kitchen. The IP56 control unit within the Banico Gas-Minder 4 ISP-3 (GM111) will continuously monitor the operation of your extraction ventilation through a DPSA-20 differential pressure switch. The DPSA-20 measures airflow in the extraction duct. Once airflow falls below a pre-set level, the control unit will send a signal to close the BS EN 161/+A3 approved gas safety solenoid valve; cutting off the supply of gas to the burners.
An important part of a good commercial kitchen gas interlock system design is ensuring that there is always access to a means of manually switching off the gas supply in case of emergencies. Therefore, an EM-1 emergency stop button will be provided as part of the Banico Gas-Minder 4 ISP-3 (GM111) package. The EM-1 can be mounted at a location outside the cooking area such as near the kitchen door. An additional component required to complete the installation is a BS EN 161/+A3 approved gas safety solenoid valve. Banico and its distributor network can provide guidance on selecting a gas safety solenoid valve appropriate for each application.
Mandatory commercial kitchen gas interlock system — everything included except the solenoid valve. The Banico Gas-Minder 4 ISP-3 (GM111) is in stock and ready to ship. A BS EN 161/+A3 approved gas solenoid valve is required to complete the installation.
