Threaded joints on pipes carrying water, air, steam or fuel need a sealant that fills the thread and stays flexible. LA-CO Slic-tite is a paste thread compound containing PTFE, supplied in a 475ml tub with a brush in the cap, so you can brush it on to the thread, including wet or oily threads.
It’s non-drying, so it doesn’t harden or crack in the joint, which makes the joint easier to take apart later. Check before you use it on gas. The approvals listed for Slic-tite are North American, and UK gas installations need a sealant approved to EN 751. Don’t use it on gas fittings unless it’s approved for your installation. It’s not for joints that seal on a washer, olive or flat seat. Gas work must be carried out by a suitably qualified, registered gas installer in accordance with the relevant standards.
