A gas pipe joint needs a sealant that stays put and doesn’t harden, so a joint can be pressure tested the moment it’s assembled. Rocol Gasseal is a non-setting sealing compound in an off-white paste, designed for metallic threaded joints on LPG, natural gas, air and water pipework.
Because it never sets, joints can be assembled and pressure tested immediately. It’s independently tested by BSI to BS EN 751-2:1997 Part 2 Class B, and Rocol states it passes the EN 751-2:1997 test with hydrogen and with a hydrogen/methane mix. It resists vibration, works from -20°C to +125°C, and is compatible with foam-forming leak testers. It’s non-corrosive to aluminium, brass, copper, low carbon steel and zinc fittings.
For gas, Rocol states it’s suitable for low-pressure LPG and natural gas up to 0.2 bar (2.9 psi, 200mbar), typically on threaded pipes on gas appliances and their auxiliary equipment. Apply it above 0°C and store it between +1°C and +40°C. It’s for threaded joints that seal on the thread, not joints that seal on a washer, olive or flat seat. Gas work must be carried out by a suitably qualified, registered gas installer in accordance with the relevant standards.
Because Gasseal never sets, you can assemble a threaded gas joint and pressure test it straight away. It’s tested to BS EN 751-2 Class B, resists vibration, and is compatible with foam-forming leak testers.
