A pipe clip or ring has to be fixed to something solid. This M10 female backplate gives you a galvanised steel mounting plate with an M10 female thread, so an M10 stud or threaded rod can screw into it.

A common use is with a Munsen ring clip and a cut length of M10 stud: the stud stands the ring off the wall, which leaves room for insulation or lagging around the pipe.
