With good torque and a grip width of up to 70mm, it's particularly suited to professional users for whom the capacity of the classic 250mm Cobra isn't sufficient. For pipes, nuts, sleeves and various other components, the professional user applies the Knipex Cobra quickly and accurately with just one hand movement. The spring-loaded hinge bolt locks securely into place without adjusting inadvertently. Thanks to 30-fold fine adjustment, the Cobra 87 01 300 can be ideally adjusted to different sizes of component, and this fine adjustment also ensures a hand-friendly gripping position at every grip width.
The jaw geometry developed by Knipex clamps onto the component securely by itself, so the user can put all their energy into the desired movement — turning, tightening or releasing — without pressing the handles together and losing energy in the process. It's ideal for counter screw joints, using two Cobras together.
Forged from chrome vanadium steel and hardened through a multiple-stage process, the gripping teeth are additionally induction hardened using high-frequency current to a hardness of approximately 61 HRC for a lasting, secure bite. The Cobra is further stabilised by its box joint design — unlike pliers with mounted joints, no tilting forces arise when under strain, and the handles stabilise each other in the joint.
Reaching 70mm pipe and 60mm nut capacity, this is the largest step in the Cobra range covered so far, suited to bigger fittings the 250mm model simply can't grip. Despite its size, it remains genuinely manageable at 530g, and the same self-locking, box-joint design as the smaller Cobras carries through, giving a stable, energy-efficient grip on the biggest components in the range.
