A change of direction in buried gas or water pipework needs a joint that’s as strong as the pipe. Electrofusion fuses the elbow to the pipe using heat from wires built into the fitting, so each joint becomes part of the pipe, not a mechanical seal that can work loose.
This 90mm universal electrofusion equal elbow makes a 90° turn between two lengths of 90mm MDPE pipe. It’s made from PE100 polyethylene in black, with exposed-wire technology to maximise heat transfer and 4.0mm terminal pins. Radius’s electrofusion fittings are tested for use with PE80 and PE100 pipes in a wide range of SDRs, and Radius states a service life of over 100 years when installed correctly.
Radius’s electrofusion fittings are Kitemarked to BS EN 1555-3 and GIS/PL2:4 for gas, and to BS EN 12201-3 for water, and use WRAS-approved material. The maximum operating pressure depends on the pipe and the fitting, so always check the fitting’s packaging label.
Keep the jointing surfaces clean until fusion. Electrofusion needs a compatible electrofusion control unit, correct pipe preparation and a trained installer. Gas work must be carried out by a suitably qualified, registered gas installer in accordance with the relevant standards.
When a gas or water run needs to turn a corner, a fused elbow makes the joint as strong as the pipe. The PE100 fitting doesn’t corrode, and the same elbow works for gas and water pipe.
