A long 30-metre coil of clear 25mm (1") inner diameter PVC hose is what we all use around here, it's just the one size that seems to cover all the bases. It's 13 bar max working pressure and 40 bar burst pressure, so it's perfect for all sorts of tasks around the farm, in the garage, on the building site or even just the garden. Not too big, not too small - this hose is just right for most jobs without being a hassle to handle. And good news, it won't go brittle and crack in the sun - we've given it a good dose of high UV protection to make sure of that. Plus, if it's going to get bent or kinked up, this hose won't lose its bore or its flow under pressure.
As far as sizes go, 1" is probably the most all-round useful size you can find for moving air and fluids. Big enough to handle a lot of jobs but small enough to still be easy to route around things. And with clear PVC, you can see what's going on inside the hose - no need to disconnect the whole thing just to spot any blockages or air in the line. The internal braid gives the hose the strength it needs to hold the pressure without making it all stiff and hard to work with.
